About me

I've had what might euphemistically be termed a 'portfolio career'. Or alternatively: I have a magpie-like attraction towards the new and exciting.

I started work in the voluntary sector - and my heart is in mission-driven organisations. I worked across addiction, homelessness and criminal justice, going from a frontline worker to senior management.

I spent ten years as a Criminal Barrister, both prosecuting and defending, but gravitating towards financial and compliance prosecutions. I found it hugely satisfying to build a case from complex evidence, and this is where I picked up my deep love of Excel.

I've worked directly in finance for non-profits, from entry-level work through to finance and contract management, and I still love bookkeeping. Some of my most complex data migrations have been across finance platforms - the feeling when everything reconciles and balances at the end is phenomenal. I'm looking forward to doing more finance work to support small businesses get on board with Making Tax Digital.

In 2017 I picked up a GDPR qualification and spent a fun few years consulting on data protection - auditing processes and implementing compliant policies, procedures and systems.

Since 2019 I've worked inside several small businesses managing operations, and cleaning out the spaghetti-like tangles in their processes and platforms.

A constant theme has been my love of tech platforms and particularly CRMs. I've built case management systems in Access and Microsoft Power Platform and I enjoyed the 'vibe-coding' explosion using AI tools.

All this is to say that I've picked up a very diverse set of skills across finance, law and tech. I've learnt about how successful businesses operate, and where things can go wrong. I've also learnt about sales funnels and sheep farming and VAT and JavaScript and email deliverability. And a whole host of other things of varying usefulness.

For fun I knit socks, ring Church bells and re-read Dorothy L Sayers and Jilly Cooper. I am also working towards the perfect recipe for protein breakfast buns.
